Anyone know anything about Montparnasse Paris?
Looking to stay on Paris for a few days soon, anyone know if Montparnasse area of Paris is nice? Close to attractions such as Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, Opera…??? Don’t want to be too far away from everything. Any suggestions? Any particular hotels in mind? I was looking at the Concorde Montparnasse or Le Meridien Montparnasse…???
I wouldn’t go so far as to call Montparnasse “nice”, but it’s not awful either. It’s pretty middle of the road for Paris.
It’s not a tourist area, but there are a couple of things to see there. There’s a historic cemetery that is not as big as the famous Père Lachaise, but just as interesting. There are a number of decent, reasonably priced restaurants nearby. The observation deck of the Tour Montparnasse is, in my opinion, a better way to see the city than going to the top of the Eiffel Tower. Shorter lines, too.
Remember that you’re never really very far from anything in Paris. If you stay in Montparnasse, you can still use the Metro to get to the major tourist sites in 15-20 minutes.
