Tips and Info. about Paris, France?

My mother and I are going to Paris next Sunday and we are staying there until the 10th. We’re staying at the Hilton La Defense Hotel. Is it safer to take a taxi or the subway to the hotel? If it’s the taxi how much would it cost? On the first day we are going on the L’Open Hop on Hop off tour. How do we get the passes or whatever for the tour and is there a bus stop for L’Open bus by the Hitlon or should we take a taxi to one of the bus stops? What are some must sees in Paris and la Defense district???? Anything I should know about Paris before going? Are there any cheap bakeries or restuarants in La Defense or anywhere in Paris??? Please be very informative :-D

The Hilton is in the business heart of Paris – a new area full of tower office blocks. Nothing much to see there, unfortunately and not particularly picturesque unless you like ultra modern architecture. It is on the metro and the RER line – please look at the rer and metro maps available on www.ratp.fr.
I just googled L’open hop and found this which will be of help
http://www.pariscityrama.com/visit-paris-by-day/visit-hop-on-hop-off-tours/visit-paris-l-open-tour/110A195.html. It also shows a map of the route taken by the buses which visit most of the major sites. You can reserve on line. The nearest stop is at the Arc de Triomphe. To get there from your hotel you would need to take the RER A from La Défense station to Charles de Gaulle Etoile station.
I think it is just one stop. You would be well advised to buy a travel pass for the duration of your stay. Information is available at the La Defense station. The rer and metro systems are very safe – have been using them for over 25 years with no problems whatsoever. You might like to take a taxi to the hotel when you arrive – you will be tired and laden with your cases. But after that take public transport – no problems! Impossible to estimate taxi cost without knowing where you are arriving – cost from Roissy airport is a little different to the cost from the Gare du Nord station.

Paris is full of bakeries but the hilton usually supplies breakfast! Most bakers do good sandwiches for a push-past lunch. Do not know any restaurants in La Défense but there are thousands in the centre of Paris and as its so easy to get to….

Enjoy yourself.

Can you recommend a small boutique hotel in Paris that is clean, friendly and not too expensive?

My favorite little boutique in the Opera district is booked. IMy girls and I like small intimate boutique hotels and would appreciate suggestions. It is for Fashion Week.

The Hotel Lutetia is beautiful. You can get a room for about 180 euroes. It has some sister hotels as well. Check on the Concorde Hotels website. The breakfast is ridiculously expensive, but there are lots of cafes nearby. I love the little eclair/chocolate shop around the corner. Plus the Lutetia is just 2 blocks from the Bon Marche.

What Paris district is this hotel in, And please check my intinerary?

Glasgow Monceau

3 Rue de la Felicite
75017

Also does this Intinarey make sense, like are all the places close together? And I would also like to visit the Catacombs (sp?), Judging by the schedule what day would i best fit this into, distance wise?
Oops i forgot to put it in .

Sunday: Sunday Morning Market in Rue du Montorgueil & Champs Eslyees, and Arc De Triomph & Market streets (17th District)

Monday: Disneyland

Tuesday: Louvre, 13th District (China Town)

Wednesday: 2nd District – French Atmosphere, little passageways and arcades full of shops and small cafés

Thursday: 4th District, Notre Dame, Fashionable bars, shops and restaurants line the streets. Beaubourg/Pompidou Centre.

Friday: Invalides (Napoleon’s Tomb), the Eiffel Tower, the Champ de Mars and L’Ecole Militaire 7th District

From the postal code, 75017, you can see that its in the 17th arrondissement. This is in the northwest of the city. This particular address is in the northernmost part of the 17th.

What itinerary?

EDIT: Okay, now that I see your itinerary I have to say its very odd. I get the feeling you picked lines out of some website describing the arrondissements of Paris to make this itinerary.

I take it this is your first trip to Paris. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Disneyland is an utter waste of time unless you are traveling with small children. To visit a cookie cutter theme park when one of the world’s great and unique cities is at your feet makes no sense at all.

Allocating a day for wandering arond the 2nd arrondissmenet also makes no sense. There are nice shops, cafes and architecture everywhere in Paris and the 2nd isn’t something special.

Chinatown in Paris is a relatively boring section of the city and the restaurants and shops there are as common as dirt. Unless you live on the moon there is almost certainly a Chinatown that is exactly the same in a big city close to your home.

I’d be happy to make a detailed itinerary for you. Just send me an e-mail which includes a real (rather than a Yahoo answers) email address (since the itinerary will be much longer than I can send thru Yahoo answers) and give me some idea of who you are and what really interests you.

Family of four looking for hotel in paris?

Couple with two teenagers looks for a cheap place to stay in paris for one or two nights.

This is tough because Paris hotel rooms are tiny. We usually have to book two rooms.

The Novotel chain is good. We can usually get connecting rooms.

Last fall, I got desperate because my three kids are small and therefore can’t be in a separate room. We stayed in a hotel. It was clean, well-located and we had our own bathroom. It is very basic but at 100 Euros a night (with breakfast), we didn’t complain. Well, my son did about the push-button showers lol! We brought our own towels and rented their sheets.

I don’t recommend this if you’re coming from America or anywhere else far away.

Look into the Citadines chain. They have “apart-hotel” rooms, with kitchens. They’re sort of a cross between the two. The advantage with the kitchen is that you don’t have to go out for all your meals.

Good luck!
